Epigenetics Advances in the Nervous System

چکیده
Neuroepigenetics is a new emerging field, mainly focusing on epigenetic mechanism study of the central nervous system (CNS). New discoveries show that the CNS-related behaviors, CNS disorders, neural plasticity, neurotoxicity, drug addiction and other neurological disorders are related to the underlying epigenetic mechanisms. Moreover, the development and the function of the human nervous system are also linked with epigenetic mechanisms, exhibiting transgenerational epigenetic effects. Advances in the study of epigenetic mechanisms in CNS are reviewed in this contribution.

Ionotropic Glutamate Receptors and their Role in Neurological Diseases
Glutamate is extensively and relatively uniformly distributed in the central nervous system (CNS) and its effects mediated by two distinct groups of receptors including Ionotropic and metabotropic glutamate receptors. Concentration of glutamate in the nervous system is much higher than in other tissues. Glutamate receptors play an important role in synaptic transmission, neural plasticity and n...
متن کاملRecent advances in understanding neuropathic pain: glia, sex differences, and epigenetics
Neuropathic pain results from diseases or trauma affecting the nervous system. This pain can be devastating and is poorly controlled. The pathophysiology is complex, and it is essential to understand the underlying mechanisms in order to identify the relevant targets for therapeutic intervention. In this article, we focus on the recent research investigating neuro-immune communication and epige...
متن کاملEpigenetics, Nervous System Tumors, and Cancer Stem Cells
Recent advances have begun to elucidate how epigenetic regulatory mechanisms are responsible for establishing and maintaining cell identity during development and adult life and how the disruption of these processes is, not surprisingly, one of the hallmarks of cancer. In this review, we describe the major epigenetic mechanisms (i.e., DNA methylation, histone and chromatin modification, non-cod...
متن کاملO 14: Differentiating Demyelinating Disorders of the Central Nervous System – a Focus on Multiple Sclerosis and Neuromyelitis-Optica Spectrum Disorders
Significant advances have been made in diagnosis and therapy of demyelinating disorders of the central nervous system. The most common entities of this disorders in adults – multiple sclerosis and neuromyelitis optica were initially thought to be different phenotypes of more or less the same disease. During the last ten years, this view was subsequently changed and the term neuromyelitis ...
متن کاملMutations in chromatin machinery and pediatric high-grade glioma.
Pediatric central nervous system tumors are the most common solid tumor of childhood. Of these, approximately one-third are gliomas that exhibit diverse biological behaviors in the unique context of the developing nervous system. Although low-grade gliomas predominate and have favorable outcomes, up to 20% of pediatric gliomas are high-grade. These tumors are a major contributor to cancer-relat...
